Over thirty years ago, three guys, with the help of some tequila, came up with the idea to share Border-style food with the world. In October of 1982, the first restaurant opened on the corner of Knox and Travis in Dallas, Texas. They remained a wholly owned subsidiary until 2009 when they merged with Brinker International.
The next year, they were sold to Golden Gate Capital. Four years after that, Golden Gate Capital sold them to Border Holdings, an affiliate of the Argonne Capital Group. They admired the brand’s unique menu and atmosphere and wanted to expand the chain nationwide. They worked with the existing management to do just that.
In 2014, Ward Whitman was named CEO of the company. He has vast experience in the industry. Whitman knows the value of brand recognition, operations discipline, and he has a clear vision for success.
